Nurturing growth,
Shaping Futures
Our Unique Approach to Caring for Children with Complex Needs
We care for some of the most vulnerable children. Most have experienced significant trauma, disruption and have complex needs and, for many, mainstream school isn’t an option. Our unique and holistic approach keeps them safe, helps them build trusting relationships, grow in confidence and develop for their futures.
Our community of small, nurturing, therapeutic family homes in rural West Berkshire are all rated Outstanding or Good by Ofsted. Our three specialist schools provide learning specifically tailored for each child. Both are complemented by our alternative learning provision, Stable Futures – our outdoor educational equine and animal therapy programme.
Therapeutic Parent Model
Every child deserves to feel nurtured, understood and cared for. In all our homes, the adults around our children know how to offer exactly that — helping each child feel safe, build trust and go on to live a fulfilling life.
Everyone in our team is trained in PACE, the therapeutic parenting model developed by Dr Dan Hughes, built on Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity and Empathy. For us, PACE isn’t a technique — it’s woven into everyday life in our homes, and it’s simply how we parent.
Alternative & Inspirational Education
For children who need a different route into learning, our Alternative Provision works closely alongside this therapeutic approach. The focus is on helping young people re-engage with education through meaningful, practical experiences, small group support and consistent relationships, with wellbeing and learning kept side by side.
Interaction with horses and small animals is part of this day-to-day experience. Caring for animals supports routine, responsibility and confidence, while also creating gentle opportunities to practise patience, empathy and safe connection. Whether it is feeding, cleaning, preparing equipment, or calm, supported handling, these moments can help young people feel capable again and build a positive sense of purpose.
The combination of therapeutic support, structured learning and hands-on animal care helps many young people feel more settled, more engaged and more ready to take their next steps.
In Their Own Words
“We remain reflective upon our practice to ensure we are all held accountable for not only safeguarding the young people, but for supporting them to achieve their best possible outcomes.”
— Gary Carlin, Director
